On June 8, a truck carrying millions of dollars worth of electronics was found broken into at a truck stop in Bennett, Colorado. An estimated $1.4 million of products were stolen.
The driver discovered the trailer broken into, with 8-10 pallets stolen. This amount of pallets is estimated to weigh thousands of pounds, which would require special equipment to carry out the heist. This indicates that organized crime and careful planning played a key role in this event.
For this company, the consequences go beyond the $1.4 million loss of product. Waisted miles, manufacturing costs of new goods, and customers with delayed shipments are just a few other prices they will have to pay to restore their supply chain.
Contrarily, the thieves’ consequences are little to none currently. Due to the lack of visibility of the trailer throughout its journey, investigators cannot confirm where or when the theft occurred. As of June 17, no arrests have been made.
This event is yet another reminder that increased visibility is no longer an option in your supply chain. Conducting frequent visual inspections of seals and locks is key to not only limiting cargo theft but also gaining insight into when, where, and how your goods were stolen.
Technova is already helping customers gain this valuable visibility. By collecting and analyzing seal and lock details at gates, docks, or anywhere your goods change hands, Technova is improving resistance to costly disruptions in supply chains every day.
